Transition from high school to adult life for students with intellectual disabilities
Abstract
Transition from high school to adult life for students with intellectual disabilities is complicated and can be even harder when their school experience is not related to their future career options. This is the situation of our students with important special educational needs assisted by the USEE (Support to Special Education Programme).
This paper justifies the need for further work and research along these lines. It also outlines the orientation and transition programme that is being developed in our high school to ease the process of transition from student to working adult. Finally, the conclusions reached from a preliminary evaluation of this programme are explained.
