Assessment and educational psychology intervention in cases of adopted children
Abstract
With 4155 international adoptions and 548 domestic adoptions over the last four years, Catalonia has one of the highest adoption rates in the world. The present study analyses the educational needs of adopted children, following Bowlby’s attachment theory and the importance of building resiliency, both representing key pivotal issues in the study.
The role played by the family and the school in the child’s adjustment and integration is discussed, as well as origins and their effect on both parents and the adoptive child throughout their lives. An empirical study shows the views of parents and teachers and school achievement rates are also discussed.
A summary of conclusions, proposals and applications are presented.
