Nowadays our society faces the challenge of integrating newcomers who, to a large extent, come to Europe as an opportunity to flee poverty as well as an opportunity for family and personal development. This is a challenge that affects more significantly the schools in areas with a higher degree of population increase, which usually coincide with the most impoverished areas in our neighbourhoods and cities. The balanced distribution of these pupils that integrate into the Catalan education system is the key to avoid creating poverty pockets and centers of excessive complexity that do not guarantee equal opportunities for all.
This redistribution and integration will only be effective if it is accompanied by a series of changes at political and social level that guarantee, among other things, a much more substantial funding than is currently being allocated. A true commitment from the Administration is required in order to offer effective measures rather than gimmicky ones.
