Project for establishment of ‘alternative educational measures’ to expulsion of high school students in case of disciplinary file

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to present the project on alternative educational measures. This pilot study,which just started in the city of Cornellà de Llobregat, is the result of the networking of different educational and social services of the area. The project expects to provide alternative measures from the usual disciplinary channels. This project will apply to the students for who, due to certain personal and social conditions, the disciplinary expulsion, understood as the exclusion from the center to the family home, cannot be properly accompanied and thus is valued as a factor of risk. This kind of measure is offered when all educative resources are exhausted and the only alternative for the educational center is to expel the student. The whole process is brewed and developed by a committee of professionals who follows a protocol of detection. This committee evaluates the educative alternative and the chosen referral service in a very exhaustive way. The services are collaborative entities of the city, which can be contacted and where volunteer adult welcomes and accompanies the teenager during the corresponding period related to the alternative measure.
